This is my first ever attempt at scriptwriting, which I wrote for my university class. Perhaps one day I will get around to finishing it! EXT. WOODCHUCK SUMMER CAMP - MIDDAY Focus in on a large axe, slowly revealing that it is part of a sign reading ’Woodchuck Camp’. It is a bright sunny day. Trees gleaming, the sun scorching everything it touches and not a breeze on the air. The forest floor is untouched by the suns rays, dark and unwelcoming. The large clearing surrounded by these trees contains three cabins, they are new, clean and clearly have not been lived in yet. All but one. A smaller cabin, closest to the sign is revealed to have 2 people standing in the doorway, holding paper cups of coffee and standing awkwardly, leaning against the frame. They are ANDI JAMESON and DAVID HUNTLEY. INT. CABIN ONE - CONTINUOUS Passing between them we see inside the cabin. Newspapers and cuttings are cluttering the desk and sofas, words such as ’horrific’, ’brutal’ and ’mysterious’ are bolder than the rest. David and Andi begin to straighten their matching uniforms and hurl their coffee cups behind them. EXT. WOODCHUCK SUMMER CAMP - CONTINUOUS Andi and David share a look of excitement, he lingers on her face a little longer before he breaks his gaze. A group of kids are coming towards them, laden with bags, suitcases and backpacks, stopping as they reach Andi and David. ANDI Welcome to Woodchuck Summer Camp kids! Some of the children cheer, others groan and roll their eyes. DAVID Come on kids! Who’s ready for the best summer of their lives? EXT. CABIN CLEARING - A FEW HOURS LATER All the kids, as well as DAWN, MOLLIE, LARRY and AARON are sat, on lengths of logs laid out around the fire that sits in the middle of the open space just by the cabins. David and Andi are perched on a log at the ’head’ of the circle. They have torches at their feet and a stack of blankets next to them. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 2. ANDI How did everyone like their first day? She looks around the circle of faces, searching for a reaction. KID #1 I loved it! It’s just all so amazing! ANDI That’s wonderful, I’m so glad you are enjoying yourself. KID #1 Thanks. DAVID And, Dawn, is it? He pointedly looks over at Dawn who creeps back from the middle of the group. DAVID (CONTINUOUS) Now, come on. Don’t be shy. We want to share our experiences. DAWN Oh, I’m sorry. I have nothing to share. Guess I’m just not a very ’sharey’ person. ANDI Are you not enjoying yourself, Dawn? The entire circle of people are now staring at Dawn. She scans their faces. DAWN Would you like me to lie? DAVID Absolutely not. DAWN In that case, I’m not. ANDI That’s a shame. Are you alright? (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 3. DAWN Yah. Great, thanks. She folds her arms. DAVID I have a great idea. We know everyone likes to sing, so who’d like to start us off in a group karaoke? Groans seem to reverberate from the entire circle. Aaron soon jumps up from where he seats and with a gesture towards Larry, conjures up a backing singer. AARON (singing) "You know you love me, I know you care. Just shout whenever, and I’ll be there" DAWN Oh Em Gee! Shut up will you! David and Andi playfully tap along to the beat on their laps, beckoning others to join in by clapping to the beat. AARON "You are my love, you are my heart - and we will never, ever, ever be apart" Larry continues to dance. Dawn gets up and walks to her cabin, Cabin Two. Aaron stops and joins David and Andi as they look over watching her walk away. DAVID Do you want me to? ANDI No, I’ll go. Andi gets up and walks over to Cabin Two. David gathers back the attention of the other kids and gestures for Aaron and Larry to sit back down. They do. LARRY (aside to Aaron) Aw shit bro! AARON What? I didn’t do anything. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 4. LARRY Sure. MOLLIE Look guys, just shush will you? LARRY Whatever. David leaps up from where he sits and makes his way over to Larry, Aaron and Mollie. He kneels in front of them. DAVID I understand Dawn has a few problems at home. MOLLIE Is that really your business? DAVID Afraid it is where the emotional state of one of our campers is concerned. AARON Sorry buddy, but all I did was sing a Bieber ballad. DAVID I know that. LARRY So what’s your beef? DAVID My ’beef’ is, just watch yourselves around Dawn. David returns to his seat. Picks up a few blankets and hands them around the circle to his left, repeating this to his right. DAVID Wrap up warm guys, it’s a chilly night. INT. CABIN TWO - CONTINUOUS Andi knocks on the side of the wall as she enters the cabin. She peers over at Dawn who is lying upon her bed, with her back to the cabin door. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 5. ANDI How you gettin’ on Dawn? (beat) I’m here to be talked to, you know. Dawn shuffles and rearranges herself in the bed. She picks up her phone. ANDI (CONTINUOUS) What ya doin’? Still at the door, Andi steps forward cautiously, as though she is testing the water. Dawn does not react, but still keeps her gaze on her phone. DAWN What are you doing here? I don’t need someone to talk to, I just want to be alone. ANDI I’m sorry, but I need to come check on you. Andi moves closer to Dawn, she sits on the end of her bed. ANDI (CONTINUOUS) I just need to make sure you are OK. DAWN I’m fine. You can go back now. ANDI I understand you may find it difficult here, but we are here to make it enjoyable for all you guys. DAWN Right sure. ANDI Some trouble at home is it? Dawn leaps up from her bed. DAWN Who told you? What did they tell you? ANDI Just that you were having a few problems is all. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 6. DAWN It’s none of your business. ANDI Look, I’m sorry. DAWN Why is it that you people always have to stick your nose in? ANDI It’s called ’being concerned’. DAWN Well, I think I’d prefer it if you didn’t concern yourself with me. I don’t even want to be here. Andi too gets up from the bed and quickly moves towards the cabin door. ANDI (CONTINUOUS) You know where we are if you want to talk. Andi leaves the cabin and the door slams shut. Dawn jumps at the noise, before turning on her radio and relaxing back on her bed. The song from the radio suddenly turns into static. Dawn spins around to fiddle with the radio settings, before it returns back to normal. EXT. CABIN CLEARING - CONTINUOUS David gets up as Andi returns from the cabin. Going over, he looks back at the trembling kids. DAVID I think we should call it a night. ANDI I agree. I think everyone is just a little, homesick. DAVID Did you manage to get anything out of Dawn? ANDI Barely. I think she just wants to be left alone. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 7. DAVID Possibly, yet the whole point of this camp is to be experiencing summer with a bunch of people who just want to have fun. (beat) At least that’s what the brochure wants the parents to think. ANDI Not sure that’s quite how I’d sell it. Anyway, I don’t think now is the time to try and get through to Dawn. She seems set against you and I. DAVID I’m sure the treasure hunt tomorrow will put her in a better mood. ANDI I wouldn’t bet on it. What a struggle. He reaches out an arm to Andi and places his hand on her shoulder. DAVID Are you alright? ANDI Hmmm? What? Oh, yeah. Just need to get some sleep I think. DAVID No problem, I’ll send the kids to bed too. I swear, half of them were falling asleep when I was telling them my spooky story. ANDI I’ve heard that story before. I doubt it was that they were tired. DAVID Harsh words Andi. ANDI I know. They go over to the circle of kids. Some of them have collapsed into their neighbours laps, while others nod off and are relying on someone to catch them before they fall backwards off the log they are sat on.
8. INT. CABIN TWO - THE NEXT MORNING Dawn is sat on her bed, staring out of the window at Andi and David as they gesture wildly at the collection of kids building around Cabin One. She is surrounded by Mollie, Larry and Aaron who are texting, reading magazines but generally looking glum. DAWN Did you see them? Can you believe we used to look like that? Gross. AARON You didn’t. DAWN What? AARON Nothing. Dawn pulls her phone out her bag and starts playing on it. LARRY (Aside to Aaron) Good one dickhead. Aaron shoves Larry in the arm, causing him to bang into Mollie, making her drop her phone. She shoves him back in return. They exchange annoyed glances. MOLLIE You prick. You could’ve broken my phone. Ignoring her, Larry gets up from the floor and walks over to the open cabin door. Young kids are bustling past him with their bags. LARRY You kids have no idea what you’ve let yourselves in for. MOLLIE That was a little cryptic for you, Larry. LARRY I know. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 9. Larry ambles back over and grabs a ’Scream’ mask from the cupboard by his bed. Throwing it over his face he creeps up behind Dawn and suddenly grabs her by the shoulders. She screams as she turns to see the gaping black eyes and mouth of the mask. Aaron gets up and pushes Larry away from Dawn as she screams. Mollie stops her idle mutterings to herself and looks at the two boys. AARON Wow Larry, seriously. Get away from her. LARRY Are you shittin’ me? It was a joke dude. DAWN It’s fine. Aaron, step away. AARON Nah, nah its cool. I just, I understand how sometimes things like that just aren’t funny. DAWN I’m surprised at you. (beat) Actually I’m honestly not. MOLLIE Well I certainly don’t think it’s funny. Larry removes the mask and throws it back on his bed. He flicks on the switch of his IPOD dock and the room is filled with music, distilling the awkward atmosphere. Sitting next to Mollie, he peers over her shoulder at her phone. She does not notice. DAWN I like that. You know what, I think this could be a fun summer after all. AARON Yeah? He sits down next to Dawn and edges towards her, before she pushes him away. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 10. DAWN Ewww. No! I just think, David and Andi both want something to ’talk’ about. So why don’t we give them something. LARRY Like what? There’s not a lot of creative licence here in the forest, Dawn. DAWN We’ll have to use our imagination! Or at least, I’ll use mine. I’ve never been entirely sure that you have any kind of imagination. LARRY You’d be suprised. AARON Watch it buddy! LARRY Chill out broski. I ain’t stepping on toes here. AARON You better not be! DAWN Guys, please! Will you pay attention? Aaron moves closer to Dawn on the bed, but she stands up. DAWN (CONTINUOUS) I think we should conjure up a little nightmare of our own. INT. CABIN ONE - A LITTLE WHILE LATER The cabin is dimly lit. Andi sits at the desk, a map of the forest spread in front of her which she stares at expectantly. David is sprawled on the sofa, he examines some newspaper cuttings. A flash of a picture from one of the articles shows a gruesome scene and he flinches. Squirming in his seat, he tucks it away underneath the rest of the cuttings. He looks over at Andi, lingers for a moment before returning his gaze to the cuttings. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 11. ANDI I’m not sure what hiding spots we should use for this treasure hunt tomorrow. David gets up from his place and putting his hand on the back of her chair, stands over her looking at the map in front of them. DAVID There’s that little forestry cabin? ANDI That’s a good idea actually. Ooh, how about Sparrow Ridge? DAVID No, I don’t think they should be going over there. We should stick to the Northern side of the forest, that way they’ll be closer to the camp. ANDI Ooh yes, but they’d love that little stream that runs by it. DAVID It’s still early, let’s keep them a bit closer. I just don’t want to take any chances. David returns to the sofa. ANDI Oh David, I’m sure they’d be fine. (beat) They’ll have plenty of time to explore the forest on another day. DAVID Thank you, it would put my mind at ease at least. ANDI That’s OK. DAVID Andi? ANDI Yes? (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 12. DAVID Would you like to do something with me tomorrow? ANDI Yeah, we should probably clean out the kids cabins tomorrow while they are out. We can get rid of all the wrappings from the chocolate they smuggled in thinking this was ’Fat Camp’. DAVID Not entirely what I meant, but yes we should. What do you think to organising a little one-on-one with Dawn one day this week? See if we can’t get her in the summer camp mood! ANDI Good luck. DAVID Don’t be so negative, all she needs is some encouragement. ANDI We’ll see. Something about her attitude to the other kids here, just shows a lack of respect. DAVID Like most teenagers then. ANDI If you must put it like that yeah. DAVID I do. By the way- ANDI Yes? DAVID I did a little research on this place, did you know what happened here? ANDI I do. I’d rather not talk about it if that’s alright with you. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 13. DAVID I see. No worries. David reaches out to the coffee table in front of him and picks up some newspaper clippings. Focusing in on one of the newspaper cuttings, it shows a row of 5 small cabins with police tape and trails of blood along the grass in front of it. EXT. WOODCHUCK SUMMER CAMP - 8 YEARS AGO Entering the picture, police officers come into the scene disrupting the stillness of the photograph. Chaos ensues. Some Officers remain calm, looking at the scene, while others run around, stopping to vomit on the ground. INT. A CABIN - CONTINUOUS Following one officer into a cabin, he vomits when he sees the carnage within. There is blood smothered over the walls and the small beds inside. He leaves the cabin, a pale white colour. OFFICER BRADY and OFFICER MACMAHON remain, examining the carnage left behind in the cabin. They edge closer towards the beds, without disturbing any of the blood left on the floor. OFFICER BRADY This is sick. OFFICER MACMAHON I’ve never seen anything like this. As they stare at the sheer horror within the cabin, one of the smashed window panes flies off of its hinges, the two Police Officers duck and cover. The window pane lands outside of the cabin. The sound sends SERGEANT GREEN straight into the cabin. SERGEANT GREEN Care to explain the flying glass? Still lying on the floor covering their heads, the two Officers jump, brushing themselves down. OFFICER BRADY You should have seen that! I mean, WOW! (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 14. OFFICER MACMAHON Honestly, I can’t say I can explain anything. I wish I could, but I absolutely can’t. SERGEANT GREEN Boys, what the hell are you talking about? OFFICER MACMAHON Nothing. There is nothing to say, apart from the clear fact that that window must have simply fallen out of its frame and smashed outside. SERGEANT GREEN I don’t want any games. OFFICER BRADY Neither do we. OFFICER MACMAHON This is the worst homicide I think I’ve ever encountered. OFFICER BRADY I’m not so sure this is homicide. OFFICER MACMAHON You think too much. OFFICER BRADY Yeah, I know. They all leave cabin, its deep red glow surging through the door and windows around them as they walk away. EXT. WOODCHUCK SUMMER CAMP - CONTINUOUS A bustle of police officers, including Brady, Green and MacMahon swarm around the front of the cabins, looking at the trail of blood that leads into the forest before them. They follow it until they are but a few feet away from the forest. They stare into its shadowy belly. OFFICER BRADY There ain’t no way I’m goin’ in there. SERGEANT GREEN No one’s asking you to. Yet. But we do need to find who did this. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 15. OFFICER BRADY What a joke! SERGEANT GREEN Homicide is no joke Brady. OFFICER BRADY I know, but my god! You saw what happened in the cabin, plus we have NO bodies. OFFICER MACMAHON We should find them. For the parents sake. They need to know if their children are alive. OFFICER MACMAHON I just - I can’t believe - All that blood. OFFICER BRADY It’s truly disturbing. A real horror story. OFFICER MACMAHON What are we supposed to tell the parents? OFFICER BRADY The truth I guess; that we know absolutely nothing. EXT. WOODCHUCK SUMMER CAMP - A FEW HOURS LATER The police officers have left having taped up the cabins. There is only a couple of them left, sat in a police car and cutting off the entrance to the camp. Green is asleep, OFFICER LOPEZ sips a cup of coffee while keeping watch. The cabins are lifeless as they rest with only the drying blood inside giving them any kind of character. The strong breeze blows about the cabins, making them rattle. Moonlight gives the entire space an ethereal, yet sinister glow. It is most certainly a silent night. EXT. FOREST - CONTINUOUS Branches are moving as if being swept aside by a force, leaves crunch and a dark figure edges closer and closer towards the edge of the forest and the police car. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 16. OFFICER LOPEZ Hey, boss (beat) Do you hear that? SERGEANT GREEN Are you shittin’ me? Shut the hell up, I’m trying to sleep here. Blood spots appear on the bonnet of the car, but no physical form is present. Lopez grabs Green’s arm and then points his face up and towards the front of the car. Lopez gets out of the car, pulls out his gun and stands staring at the bonnet before transferring his gaze to the thick, unwelcoming forest. A dark shadow flits in and out of the trees, and he shoots towards the shadow he saw. Green jolts awake and jumps out of the car. SERGEANT GREEN Holy shit! OFFICER LOPEZ Did you see that?! SERGEANT GREEN What? What was it? OFFICER LOPEZ And the blood! He looks back at the bonnet of the car, the spots of blood have vanished. Green rubs his eyes and stares once more. Still nothing. SERGEANT GREEN Are you alright? OFFICER LOPEZ Yeah, I think so. It’s just this place. It’s freakin’ me out. Shadows are playing with me. SERGEANT GREEN Lopez, there’s only 2 hours left till ’The Dudley Boyz’ get here to relieve us. Can you hold it together till then? OFFICER LOPEZ I’m good. It’s just the shadows, man. They both get back into the car and while Green gets ready to go back to sleep, Lopez sits with his gun in his lap staring at the spot in the trees where he saw the dark shadow.
17. EXT. CABIN ONE - PRESENT DAY - THE NEXT DAY - MIDDAY The kids are gathered outside the cabin, the younger ones engaged in excited conversation while Dawn, Aaron, Mollie and Larry are stood, arms folded. David stands on the top step to their cabin, while Andi begins handing out maps to the kids. DAVID Right, here we go then! You don’t know the woods very well, but that’s what should be so exciting for you! Have fun! If you get lost, don’t forget to keep blowing on your whistles and Andi or I will come find you. ANDI On your marks! Get set! Go! They wait at the cabin while watching the kids go rushing towards the thick forest. Once the kids have disappeared sufficiently enough, they turn to each other. DAVID I still don’t get it you know. Apparently all it takes is some money thrown at this place and it makes it safe for kids. Doesn’t make the stories or the murders go away. ANDI I know, I get that. Look at those kids though, they are excited to be here! We are in jobs that we love. They move into their cabin, both slump down on the sofa in front of their fire. David faces Andi, while she examines the newspaper clippings he left there previously. DAVID Oh sorry, ’twas just something I was looking at earlier. Ya know, I guess curiosity got the better of me. ANDI This won’t exactly help your problems with this place. You need to try and well, I hate to say this, but get over it. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 18. DAVID Get over it? Its hardly something that’s easy to ’get over’. People died here Andi. And the scary thing is, no one knows who did it. ANDI Or ’what’ did it. DAVID Exactly! ANDI Stop it will you? We’ve got a job to do - look after those kids and make sure they have a great summer. They don’t need these scary stories freaking them out! I don’t need them either. DAVID I know, I know. I’m sorry, I can’t help it though. They never caught the guy who did this. It plays on my mind. ANDI I understand that. But its not our problem right now. Its been deemed safe by the state police. We have no reason to worry. DAVID OK, OK. I’m sorry alright? ANDI Yeah, don’t worry. Just look at the positives OK? DAVID I am. EXT. FOREST - MIDDAY The forest’s once dark and unwelcoming atmosphere is now broken by the shards of light beaming through the trees, acting as spotlights on the forest floor. A white mist appears to be suspended around the trees, yet the kids appear unfazed. They are bustling around the forest, maps in the hands of those confident enough to offer to lead their group, while there are those who shy away from the active side and simply follow at a pace behind. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 19. Dawn and her friends are lagging behind also, although Aaron quickly asserts himself as the leader of their team no one shows an interest in the treasure hunt. They sit next to a tree stump that has a deep, bloody red stain on the top of it. No one has noticed. Dawn has their attention. MOLLIE I’m not sure about this Dawn. What if they catch us out? DAWN Who? You mean David and Andi? I don’t think so. Anyway, this is only a bit of fun. AARON Yeah, its only a bit of fun Mollie! MOLLIE Well, all I’m saying is - you must have heard the stories right? Read the news articles? Seen the movie? LARRY Do tell. We are all dying to know. MOLLIE Look if you’re not going to take me seriously then I’m not going to bother. DAWN Ooh, we’re sorry. Right guys? MOLLIE Whatever. All I meant was the murders that- LARRY WHOAH! Murders? MOLLIE YES Larry. This is what I’m trying to tell you. Eight years ago, right here at Woodchuck Summer Camp. A whole bunch of kids were attacked, some killed. AARON Haha-HA. Nice story Mollie. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 20. MOLLIE I’m not making this up you ass! They never found those kids bodies you know, never. I’m just not sure that’s the kind of ’legend’ we want to be bringing back to life. DAWN Awww babe, we’re hardly bringing him back to life! All we’re talking about is some fake blood, getting the gumpiest gump of them all to put on some scary outfit and making the other kiddlywinks jump a little. Harmless. Fun. AARON Sounds like fun! (On realisation the ’gumpiest gump’ is him) HEY! DAWN Yes, yes. But it has to be you, you’re the biggest guy we have. AARON Thats right. MOLLIE Well, I’m still not happy about all this. DAWN We know. And we’ll think about your thoughts on the matter in great depth as we continue to plan our attack. Mollie sits back. She looks around behind their group. Noticing the blood stain on top of the tree stump she goes over to point it out to the rest of them, yet fails to get their attention. She sits back down and joins them once more. INT. CABIN THREE. A LITTLE LATER David and Andi, armed with black bin bags enter the younger kids cabin. Posters have been pinned to the walls next to the beds, while comforting childhood blankets are thrown over the duvets. They both notice a poster of ’Justin Beiber’ grinning ridiculously at them both. They begin to stuff bits of rubbish into their black bin bags. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 21. ANDI Oh my God. DAVID What? What is it? He rushes over to her side. ANDI I just found this. Andi is holding a newspaper clipping detailing the murders that happened there 8 years ago. DAVID Oh shit. ANDI Exactly. What do we do? DAVID I guess, all we can do really. If one of the kids knows its too late. It may have even been a parent that told then, so it was really out of our control. ANDI But what if they tell the others? I don’t want the other kids to be freaking out. David takes the clipping from her hand and stuffs it in his bag. Andi takes a seat on one of the beds. ANDI (CONTINUOUS) Eight years ago and it still haunts this place. DAVID I’m shocked at the parents, letting their kids even see this stuff. Giving them all sorts of ideas. ANDI Can you imagine the other kids here getting to hear about it? They would be outta here so fast. DAVID I tell you what, we’ll get rid of it. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 22. ANDI We can’t do that David. DAVID Sure we can. Our responsibility is the safety of these kids while they’re here and I say that this is the best way to stop hysteria running through this camp. ANDI It don’t feel right. David reaches for Andi’s hand and pulls her from the bed. Wrapping an arm around her, he takes the newspaper clipping in his other hand and tears it up before stuffing the remains in one of the bin bags. DAVID See, it’s not a problem anymore. ANDI Thank you. I think. DAVID Only me, you and Justin Beiber will know that we took it. The kid will think it just got lost. Its fine. Don’t worry. OK? ANDI Yeah. Yeah, alright. They leave the cabin. The atmosphere within is tense, silent, as if one could hear a pin drop. No one is inside, yet Andi turns back at the door peering through the dimly lit cabin. INT. CABIN TWO - NIGHT Dawn, Mollie and Aaron are inside their cabin, dressed as though for bed yet they are still up. Dawn is staring out of the window towards Cabin One, with Aaron peering over her shoulder. Mollie is sat on her bed, flipping through a magazine. It is silent, for the exception of their breathing. Mollie hears a gasping breath from over her shoulder. MOLLIE Did you guys hear that? (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 23. DAWN What’s that? MOLLIE I’m sure I just (beat) never mind. She gets into her bed. She pulls the duvet around her and settles back with her magazine. MOLLIE I think I was just cold. DAWN Where’s Larry? Come on, come on! AARON If I know Larry, and I think I do, he’s probably got lost. DAWN Don’t say that. I’m sure he’s just fine. AARON (mimicking her) I’m sure he’s fine. Dawn punches Aaron on the arm playfully. They look out of the window expectantly. The only light outside is from the few lanterns hanging in garlands along the ridge of the roofs of the cabins. There is a slight breeze on the air, slightly whipping the wooden shutters of the cabins against their frames. While Aaron and Dawn are looking out of the window, the shutter begins to shake and rattle violently. AARON What the-! He puts a hand out in front of Dawn, pushing her back away from the window as it continues to rattle. She pushes his arm away and returns to her spot. DAWN I’m sure it’s just the wind. AARON Yeah, sure. Unsure of the window, Aaron keeps his distance from the wall. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 24. AARON (CONTINUOUS) I hope he hurries up. DAWN I highly doubt that he got lost breaking into a cabin. (beat) Oh, look there he is. The two of them hurry to the cabin door and open it for Larry who nearly falls through, tripping on the long, black leather coat he has in his hands. AARON What is that? LARRY It’s for the scares bro! DAWN It’s perfect. Aaron, put it on will ya? Aaron takes the jacket and puts it on, the weight of it clearly showing. LARRY I got this too earlier. He reaches underneath his bed and pulls out a black wide-brimmed hat and puts it on Aaron’s head, before standing back examining Aaron in the get-up. AARON So, how do I look? MOLLIE Not very scary. And I get scared easy. DAWN Well, NO, he doesn’t look scary now but we get some ketchup and a kitchen knife and we’re good to go. MOLLIE Sounds cool. LARRY It’s going to look so awesome! DAWN Scary. It’s going to look scary, especially in the dark. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 25. AARON So, who we hitting with this scare machine then? LARRY The whole camp. Right Dawn? AARON Push off Larry, I wasn’t even talking to you. I was talking to the beautiful mastermind. DAWN Sometimes I wish you just stopped talking. AARON No you don’t. He goes as though to touch her face, but she swipes his hand away. The others show their embarrassment for him. Aaron sits down on the bed next to Mollie. Larry and Dawn mutter to each other while examining their creation as Aaron walks over to Mollie. AARON How you doing? MOLLIE Fine, thanks. AARON You know that story you told us, I think it freaked me out a little. I mean, me? Getting freaked out? Unpossible! MOLLIE It’s impossible, moron. (beat) Actually, I’m sure it’s not. AARON What do you think? I look scary enough to creep out a couple of teens? MOLLIE Hah, depends what you smell like that day. Larry and Dawn go over to Mollie’s bed and they perch on the end. (CONTINUED)
CONTINUED: 26. MOLLIE This is going to be good, right? DAWN Of course it is, you up for being an active part in our little horror story Molls? MOLLIE Course I am. When are we doing this? DAWN Tomorrow night. They all get up from the bed and begin to jump around in excitement. Behind them on Mollie’s bed, the pages of her abandoned magazine begin to flip over as though a gust of wind blows over it. Not one of them notices, as they celebrate. Closing in a shuttered window, the wooden slats begin to shake violently, quietly enough for them not to notice. It stops as suddenly as it began and the cabin is still once more.
